You know how some people hear “beach day” and immediately picture swimsuits, sandcastles, and jumping in the waves? Yeah… that’s not always us. Sometimes, we just want the beach vibes without the soaked clothes.
This morning, I checked the weather before heading out — Houston’s sitting at a warm, sticky 82°F and climbing into the mid-90s. The clouds are drifting lazily, and there’s that salty Gulf breeze that makes you breathe a little deeper. Perfect for… not swimming.
Here’s what our non-swimming beach day looks like:
👒 Dressing for the Day
We’re talking light, breezy clothes — the kind that let the wind dance through. Cotton t-shirt, loose linen pants, and my favorite sun hat (you know, the one that makes me look like I’m pretending to be in a travel magazine). I keep a pair of breathable sneakers for walking on the boardwalk, but if you’re a sandals person, this is your moment.
🚶♀️ What We Actually Do There
- Long walks on the shore — Shoes on, toes in the sand just enough to feel grounded, but not enough to get soaked.
- Shell spotting — We find little treasures, smooth stones, and sometimes even a tiny crab who thinks he owns the place.
- Beach picnic — Sandwiches, fresh fruit, and plenty of cold water.
- People watching — You can learn a lot just by sitting back and watching families set up umbrellas or kids chasing seagulls.
🌦 Keeping It Comfortable
Texas beaches this time of year are warm, and if the weather app says “chance of afternoon thunderstorms” (which it does today), I pack a super lightweight rain jacket in my tote. Just in case.
And here’s my little reminder — you don’t have to “do” the beach the way everyone else does. There’s something magical about just being near the water, feeling the wind, and soaking in the sounds without ever stepping into the waves.
