When the weather changes and that little cough starts, my kitchen turns into a mini home apothecary. One of my favorite passed-down remedies is cumin seed tea — gentle, warm, and comforting.
How I Make It
- Take a small pinch of cumin seeds (just enough to fit between your fingers).
- Boil in a cup of water until the water turns a light golden color and you can smell the earthy cumin aroma.
- Let it cool to a warm, sip-safe temperature.
- For babies over 1 year old, I sometimes stir in a drop of honey to soothe the throat. For babies under 1, I skip the honey.
I give just a teaspoon or two at a time — slow sips, nothing rushed.
Why I Like It
Cumin seeds are known in many cultures for their warming, soothing effect. They help open up the chest, ease mild congestion, and make the whole body feel a little more comfortable.
Of course, I don’t skip the doctor if the cough is strong, lasts too long, or comes with fever — this is just a gentle at-home comfort, not a replacement for medical care.
