Okay, so this is one of those remedies passed down from the aunties, grandmas, and every mom-friend who swears by it. When my little one’s tummy is tight and gassy, sometimes I reach for something straight from the kitchen — fennel sweet water.
How I Make It
- Take a few fennel seeds (you don’t need much — just a small pinch).
- Boil them in water for a few minutes until the water smells lightly sweet and herbal.
- Let it cool down until it’s just warm.
- Stir in a tiny bit of honey (but only for babies over 1 year old — no honey for infants younger than that).
For babies under 1, I skip the honey and just use the cooled fennel water.
I give just a small teaspoon at a time — this isn’t a meal, it’s more like a gentle sip. And always, always make sure it’s cool enough for baby before giving it.
Why I Love It
Fennel is known in many cultures for helping with digestion and calming gas. Plus, it’s so easy to make, and it smells like you’re brewing something cozy.
Of course, I let my pediatrician know about anything I give the baby. Even natural remedies should be shared with the doctor, because every baby is different.
