The weather is changing, and that means one thing in our house: I start getting our winter care kit ready. At the very top of that list? Vicks Vapor.
For most people, it’s just a jar in the medicine cabinet. But for us — for Hirah — it’s a comfort, a routine, and something she actually looks forward to when she’s feeling stuffy.
Why Vicks is a Big Deal for Us
- Soothing Smell — That menthol scent instantly helps her relax, especially at night.
- Breathing Easier — It’s our go-to when she’s congested from a cold or the seasonal sniffles.
- Comfort & Routine — She knows when I get the jar out, it’s “mama’s care time.” That predictability helps her feel safe.
How We Use It for Hirah
- A small amount on her chest and upper back before bed.
- Sometimes on the soles of her feet with cozy socks (yes, it really works for her).
- Always making sure she’s warm and snuggled after.
Preparing for Winter with a Neuro Child
For kids like Hirah, change — even seasonal change — can be a challenge. Colder air, different clothes, dry indoor heat… it all adds up. So I like to keep the small comforts ready in advance. Vicks is one of those little things that makes the transition smoother.
So this week, I’m restocking. Because when the first sniffle comes, I want to be ready. And I know she’ll smile when she sees that familiar blue jar.
