I wanted to take a little time today to talk about something really close to my heart—autism. There are so many things people think they know about autism that just aren’t true. These myths can make life harder for families and individuals on the spectrum, so let’s clear a few of them up together.

Myth 1: All people with autism are the same.

Fact: Autism is called a spectrum for a reason. Some people may need more support, while others live independently and thrive in careers, relationships, and daily life. Every person is unique.

Myth 2: Autism is caused by bad parenting or vaccines.

Fact: Nope. Autism has neurological and genetic factors—it is not caused by vaccines or parenting. Blaming parents or doctors just adds unnecessary guilt and spreads misinformation.

Myth 3: People with autism don’t feel emotions.

Fact: This one really hurts, because it’s just not true. People with autism feel all emotions—love, joy, empathy, sadness. They might express feelings differently, but their emotions are very real and often very deep.

Myth 4: Autism can be “cured.”

Fact: Autism isn’t a disease, so it doesn’t need a cure. It’s simply a different way of thinking, learning, and experiencing the world. Support, education, and acceptance are what truly help autistic individuals thrive.

Myth 5: People with autism can’t work or succeed.

Fact: Many autistic people bring amazing strengths to the workplace—creativity, attention to detail, problem-solving skills. With the right opportunities and inclusive workplaces, they can achieve just as much as anyone else.

Final Thoughts

The more we replace myths with facts, the more inclusive and understanding our world becomes. Autism is not something to fear—it’s something to respect and learn about.
