Somewhere tonight,
a child is awake,
while a mother sits quietly,
wondering how to make tomorrow okay.
The little bottle is empty.
The thing that usually brings comfort
is no longer there.
Not because she doesn’t care.
Not because she didn’t try.
Sometimes, there simply isn’t enough.
And tomorrow,
she will open her computer again.
Another application.
Another résumé.
Another interview.
Another rejection.
“We have decided to move forward with another candidate.”
But behind that résumé
might be a mother who hasn’t slept.
A parent carrying responsibilities
that never appear on a résumé.
Someone who is educated.
Someone who is experienced.
Someone who is willing to work.
Someone who isn’t asking for sympathy.
Just a chance.
So before rejecting the résumé,
before reducing a person to a checklist,
before deciding they don’t fit—
look a little closer.
There may be a child depending on that opportunity.
There may be a mother praying for it.
There may be a family waiting
for one door to finally open.
Because behind every application
is a human being.
And sometimes,
humanity should be part of the hiring process.
